About
Rendezvous Climbing Gym is founded by a former elementary school teacher with a focus on introducing people to climbing. After spending 15 years teaching in public schools, owner Mark Messner began focusing his efforts on designing and creating a space where people can enjoy the benefits of bouldering. Bouldering is an inherently social sport, and Rendezvous provides spaces for people to enjoy spending time in addition to climbing.
As an educator, Mark established a no cost after-school running program after recognizing a need for students to improve their fitness and develop friendships through activity. This program focused on leadership, communication, perseverance and sportsmanship, through distance running. Each year captains were selected to lead their teams after completing a series of leadership trainings. As an end of the year reward for their dedication, Mr. Messner shared his interest in climbing with these captains by arranging for a field trip to a local climbing gym. This trip served as a team building experience for the students as well as the catalyst for the concept of Rendezvous.
We have designed our space to ensure everyone that comes in enjoys their experience and will become a regular climber. The decision to focus specifically on bouldering was based in the social nature of bouldering. Rendezvous is intended to be a space where people can connect with each other through a shared passion for climbing. Combining an open concept for the bouldering spaces along with game tables, a coffee shop, board games and plenty of open seating areas makes Rendezvous a unique community driven space.
When designing the space, many factors were considered to utilize the benefits of bouldering and ensure an exceptional climbing experience for all levels of climbers. Our top out is the perfect place for first time climbers and especially young climbers to get started. Climbing up and over the wall provides a concrete goal for young climbers and is also rewarded with trip down the spiral slide. The wall height in this area is shorter in order to be less intimidating to new climbers as well as proportionate to the size of young climbers. Our clearly defined fall zones, traffic flow and clear sight lines are designed with parent supervision and safety in mind.
Our primary bouldering spaces provide the ideal balance of terrain including slab, vertical and over hanging features. Our route setting team utilizes our walls to provides the most consistent and high-quality problems in the area. We set constantly twice per week to ensure there are always fresh sets and stick to an eight-week cycle to provide time for projecting.
We are committed to being an ideal destination for groups of friends, individuals wanting to send some great problems, parents looking for an activity to do with their children, couples seeking an active date night, first time climbers, experienced senders of all levels and anyone else looking for an enjoyable experience.
We contribute positively to our community by using our facility for charitable events. We aim to provide access to people, particularly students, in our area that may not otherwise have access or exposure to climbing. There are countless mental and physical benefits to climbing and we intend to provide opportunities to people in our community opportunities to utilize them. We look forward to the opportunity to serve our community by giving back whenever possible.
